We tend to reject ourselves when we realize our striving for perfection is futile. We cannot sit with the idea that we cannot be the perfect image we idealize ourselves to be, it seems that we’re not what we’re meant to be and we can’t forgive ourselves because of it. We hide our true selves by putting on social masks so that others won’t judge us based on their idea of perfection.

Our imperfections cause us to constantly punish ourselves. We can either abuse ourselves or make others abuse us. How much of this abuse will be based on how much you can tolerate other people’s abuse towards you. It’s quite ironic to have a desire to be loved and accepted by other people while not accepting ourselves.

This goes to believing in something so much that you end up destroying relationships in order to keep your assumptions justified
