Paul D. Brazill

Paul D. Brazill is a British crime fiction author. He writes noir and Brit Grit short stories and novels. He is best known for A Case of Noir and Guns of Brixton. His most recent collection is Shoot (2026).

Paul D. Brazill was born in Hartlepool, England. He later lived in Bydgoszcz, Poland, for many years. He has since returned to live in Hartlepool.

Brazill built his career writing short crime fiction. His work has appeared in various magazines and anthologies. He contributed to three editions of The Mammoth Book of Best British Crime. These included editions 8, 10, and 11.

Early in his career, Brazill published Roman Dalton — Werewolf PI. He followed this with A Case of Noir, which blends crime and dark humour. He then released Guns of Brixton, continuing his focus on gritty urban settings.

Brazill later expanded into flash fiction with Blink. This book contains short, sharp pieces of crime writing. He followed this with Triple Shot, comprising three short novels. Each work reflected his interest in compact, punchy storytelling.

Brazill's writing has reached international audiences over the years. His books have been translated into Spanish, Italian, and Finnish. They have also appeared in Polish, German, and Slovene editions.

In 2026, Brazill published Shoot, a new short fiction collection. The book gathers stories set across several countries. Settings include Poland, Spain, and the northeast of England.

The stories in Shoot follow a wide range of characters. These include hitmen, private investigators, and gangsters. Corrupt police officers, alcoholics, troublemakers, and petty criminals also feature throughout. Each character steadily moves towards some form of downfall.

Brazill's publisher describes the collection as both vivid and violent. The stories combine Brit Grit with international noir influences. The book features flamboyant characters and sharp, economical dialogue. Reviewers have noted the blackly comic tone throughout.
