Laura Wood

Laura Wood is a bestselling English author whose debut novel, Poppy Pym and the Pharoah’s Curse, won the 2014 Montegrappa Scholastic Prize for Children's Writing. She mostly writes for children and young adults.

Laura Wood holds a PhD in nineteenth-century literature from the University of Warwick. When she was in the final year of her thesis, Wood won the Montegrappa Scholastic Prize for her story about a plucky schoolgirl sleuth born into a circus family.

Her middle-grade novels have notably been shortlisted for esteemed awards such as the Sainsbury's Children's Book Awards and the Blue Peter Book Awards. Wood authored the Poppy Pym series, The Effie Kostas Series, and The Animals of Madame Malone's Music Hall.

In 2018, she debuted with the YA novel A Sky Painted Gold. It was followed by Under A Dancing Star, which revisits the story of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.

Her young adult novels have earned recognition through nominations for the YA Book Awards, the Books Are My Bag Awards, and the Romantic Novelist's Association Awards.

Laura Wood lives in Warwickshire with her family.
