Georgia Carys Williams is a Welsh fiction writer and poet whose work is deeply rooted in the culture and landscape of Wales. Her debut novel, Unspeakable Beauty, came out in 2024.
Georgia Carys Williams was born in Swansea, where she has spent most of her life and career. Williams completed her PhD in Creative Writing at Swansea University, during which she wrote for the Wales Arts Review and contributed to the Rhys Davies Trust's fictional map of Wales series.
Her early recognition in the literary field includes a third-place finish at the Terry Hetherington Award in 2012 and high commendation at The South Wales Short Story Competition the same year. She was also a finalist for the Swansea Life Young Writing Category of the Dylan Thomas Prize in 2008 and the Wells Festival of Literature in 2009.
Her collection of short stories, Second-hand Rain (2014), was shortlisted for the Sabotage Short Story Award and longlisted for the Edge Hill Prize and the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award. In 2019, she received a Literature Wales Bursary and participated in the Hay Writers at Work Scheme to develop her poetry.
In 2024, Williams published her debut novel, Unspeakable Beauty, with Parthian Books. The story is set in a fictionalized area on the Welsh coast, influenced by the landscapes of Gower and Swansea. It explores the life of Violet Hart, a young woman who uses ballet to escape personal struggles.
Georgia Carys Williams resides in Swansea, where she continues to write and teach creative writing.
