Covering over 2,000 hours at sea, more than 10,000 nautical miles and four different sailing boats manned by a wide range of characters and crew, More Than a Voyage is a story of adventure at sea, and the hospitality experienced in over fifty ports of call around the coasts of Ireland, Cornwall and Brittany. More than seventy people, several of whom were regular crew, were part of the voyages which commenced in the early 1980s and which happily continue today.
Detailed in these pages is a circumnavigation of Ireland, complete with twenty landfalls, taking in a visit to Dun Aengus in Inishmor, a stop-over at a golden beach in Portsalon, Co. Donegal, and an inaugural entry to the newly-built marina in Ballycastle, Co. Antrim. An audacious entry (for its time) to Kilkeel Harbour in Co. Down, on 13 July, with our small ship’s tricolour flying proudly amid a sea of red and white, stands out for its display of pure pluck.
This book will also take the reader on several voyages to Cornwall and the rugged, beautiful coastline around Land’s End, together with numerous trips to Brittany, and introduce you to a friendly dolphin, ‘Pierre’, who fell in love with our boat and followed us home … to Dingle Bay!
