The classic New York Times bestselling tale of romance and intrigue in Regency England . . .
Dear Reader,
Arielle Leslie is a sixteen-year-old girl forced to wed Paisley Cochrane, a sadistic old man who abuses her. When he dies, she believes herself free. But she's not.
Burke Drummond, Earl of Ravensworth—a young man she'd worshipped three years before—is home from the wars, and he wants her. When he catches her, he's in for an appalling surprise.
Burke and Arielle are two people who have touched me deeply. Together they faced problems and obstacles never spoken of in Regency time.
If you haven't yet read Night Fire, do give it a try. See if you agree with me that Arielle and Burke are two very special people.

    💩Una porquería

Major Catherine Coulter fan. Second book in the series (Night Shadow) is my all time favorite, but I could not stomach this book. Not due to the sadistic first husband and the non-vaginal rape that is described too well, but due to the Hero. He is a child molester.
His internal monologue describes how he fights his feelings of instant love and strong sexual attraction to a 15 year old girl, namely the heroine, whose body is not yet even a woman's body. This infatuation begins on the day of his brother's funeral.
"...she was young, very young, too dammed young."
"He wanted her. And not as an adult wants to care for a child."
"...his instant and overwhelming intoxication with a fifteen-year-old girl."
"...he had to touch her. Her waist was very small, as was the rest of her. If nothing else could save him, he could at least at least be aware that she had the body of a young girl, all coltish angles and straight lines. Nevertheless, his fingers tingled."
"...he'd felt the same blasted feeling as on the day of the funeral, save more so. Damn her, she wasn't even grown. She was by far too innocent and just plain too young for an adult man."
"...he breathed in her scent and wanted to rip off her schoolgirl's gown and carry her down to the Aubusson carpet."
    Not sexy. Vomit worthy.

She washed out her mouth, and then she vomited.

    It was too much.

    She could bear no more.

She looked up at the bars on her window, bars installed by a silent workman a year before, after her mad flight to her half brother. She knew that the door was already locked from the outside. Paisley had taken no chances with her since her attempted escape.
