Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson (1864 – 1941) was an Australian bush poet, journalist and author. This is his poignant description of a journey through the country during a period of severe drought in Australia, describing the rugged determination and imperfect grasp of basic economics of the "cockies" or rural settlers.
