Tom is weary of the sciences as they can not fulfill his ambition of unlimited power. He then turns to magic and calls up Satan. He signs a contract with him to surrender his soul to the Devil in return for twenty-four years of life. During these years, Satan shall attend on him whatever he demands. Then there are a number of instances in which a contract is implemented. He moves around the planets in a dragon-driven chariot. He calls up Helen. The pain of mind of Tom as the hour of the surrender of his soul comes here is very touching.
