Amanda Apthorpe

Amanda Apthorpe is an Australian author of fiction and non-fiction and a sessional lecturer of creative writing. She authored several novels, including Whispers in the Wiring, A Single Breath, One Core Belief, and Hibernia.

In addition to writing fiction, she is the author of the Write This Way series, a guide for creative writers.

Amanda Apthorpe received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Creative Writing from the University of Melbourne.

The thesis for her M.A. was the novel Whispers in the Wiring. It achieved First Class Honours and was published in 2011, having won a national competition.

Apthorpe's thesis for Ph.D.: The Kos Letters: Mythic Structure in Australian Women’s Fiction comprised The Kos Letters (her second novel) and an exploration of mythic structure, particularly that of Demeter and Persephone.

Amanda Apthorpe lives in Melbourne.
