Irene Lebeter is a Scottish author. She dedicated forty-five years to secretarial work across various sectors, including industry, the Civil Service, and finally, the NHS. With a lifelong passion for storytelling that began in her childhood, Irene embarked on a journey of professional creative writing upon retirement.
Irene Lebeter is actively involved in the Scottish literary community, being a member of both the Kelvingrove and Strathkelvin writing groups and a regular attendee at the Scottish Association of Writers’ annual conferences.
Her works have been featured in the Federation of Writers’ anthology Making Waves, and she has published multiple stories and articles in magazines across the UK and USA.
Her debut novel, Vina's Quest (2015), falls into romance, saga, and domestic fiction. It tells the story of Vina West, a woman from Penguin, Tasmania, who travels to Melbourne and Glasgow in search of her heritage. This adventure leads her to uncover family secrets, meet a charming Glaswegian lawyer named Philip Dawson, and find love. The story weaves a tapestry of family, romance, and self-discovery across continents from Tasmania to Scotland.
Following the debut, Lebeter published The Clock Chimed Midnight (2018), another saga set against the backdrops of Scotland and Australia. The narrative follows Elinor Bonnington’s life transitions and the resilient bonds of friendship that guide her through times of change.
Her latest work, Maddie (2024), is set in mid-20th century Glasgow, telling the tale of eighteen-year-old Maddie, who, fleeing her past, seeks a fresh start. This narrative explores themes of trust, opportunity, and the search for peace and happiness. Through the kindness of the Kingston family and a new romantic interest, Maddie's story is one of hope and the pursuit of a brighter future despite past turmoil.
