Miranda Sherry

Miranda Sherry is a South African fiction novelist. She is the author of Black Dog Summer & Bone Meal for Roses. Her first work, Days Like Glass, was shortlisted for the EU Literary Award in South Africa in 2005.

Miranda Sherry grew up in Johannesburg in a house full of books and began writing stories at seven. After a few decades, numerous strange jobs (including a puppeteer, bartender, and musician), and many manuscripts later, Black Dog Summer was published by Head of Zeus in 2014.

"I’ve been writing since as far back as I can remember. I wrote stories in old-school books with empty pages left over at the back. Alongside the weird, rambling tales I was trying to tell, I wrote bad song lyrics and awful poetry. I stopped when I finished school, believing that I didn’t really have what it took to be a real writer. It took decades to drum up the courage to try again," says the author.

Her second novel, Bone Meal for Rose, a lyrical story about a young girl’s struggle to come to terms with her past, was released in 2016. It was shortlisted for the Sunday Time Literary Award in 2017.

Miranda Sherry still lives in Johannesburg with her husband and two cats and is working on her next book.
