“Has your brain always been this damaged?” he asks as he tilts my chin up.
“I think so. There were a couple of times I had a lack of oxygen to my brain as well as some severe hits and falls. I feel like it’s given me some character, but maybe I’ve actually lost my mind.”
“You have.”

“Hi, I’m Leland. You must be G-Ma.”
I don’t know if it’s the look she’s giving him, the confusion on my family’s faces, or the ridiculousness of his name for her, but I start laughing. “Don’t make my grandma sound like a gangster!”
“Maybe I like sounding like a gangster,” Grandma says. “I always thought the name ‘Grandma’ made me sound too old.”
